Known for its ability to withstand harsh desert conditions, the Bactrian camel is a valuable pack animal and source of milk and meat for the nomadic peoples of the region. Unlike its single-humped counterpart, the dromedary camel, the Bactrian camel has thick, shaggy fur to protect it from extreme temperatures, and is adapted to survive on sparse vegetation and limited water sources.
