In 1942 Germany finally saw the need to
standardize parts and production of it’s tanks. The
E-series was slated to replace armor manufactured
after 1945. Six chassis were planned: the E5,
E10, E25, E50, E75 and the E100. The
E-10 was developed as a replacement of
the Panzer 38(t) and the designs based on it.
Many of it’s parts were exchangeable with the E25.
E-series vehicles were to have rear drive with
transverse mounted engines, externally sprung
suspensions, large diameter overlapping road wheels
along with Panther tracks and a hydrostatic drive.
All six basic designs of E-Series would have
standardized parts making production, maintenance
and service easier and cheaper. The E-10 was unique
in having an auxiliary drive coupled to the suspension
in order to lower and raise the vehicle.
