The Qiandaohu class (NATO codename: Fuchi class ), have been built for the PLA Navy (PLAN) in 2003/04. The first, Qiandaohu (pennant number 886), was built at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard in Shanghai and launched in July 2003. The ship entered service with the PLAN East Sea Fleet on 30 April 2005.
The commission of the Qiandaohu class is a part of Chinas ambitious plan to build a blue water navy that can reach waters far away from its coastline. The replenishment ships are capable of supporting general purpose task groups, amphibious task groups, or even aircraft carrier battle groups.
