The Walther WA2000 was designed from the start as a specialised police sniper rifle as opposed to being a modification of an existing rifle. The primary calibre of the rifle is .300 Winchester magnum chosen for its long range accuracy and consistency at all ranges, however 7.62mm NATO and 7.5mm Swiss chambering were also available. Very few of these rifles were produced, making them collector’s items today.

The WA2000 uses a bullpup layout to provide a long barrel in a short overall length. It uses a gas operated semi-automatic action, which allows quick follow-up shots if necessary. The rifle was designed around the barrel, which is free floated. The rifle fires from a closed bolt and uses a seven locking lug bolt. Two generations of this rifle exist. The first had some problems with its gas system which were fixed in the second generation, as well as having a more effective muzzle brake and improved bipod. The improved gas system as well as a non fluted barrel provided more accuracy than the first generation WA2000.

The accuracy of the WA2000 is exceptional, maintaining sub-MOA accuracy beyond 1000 metres. The rifle was too expensive for the intended market, resulting in marginal sales and a limited production run. It remains an extremely strong and accurate sniper rifle, and has attained a semi-legendary status amongst shooters worldwide.

The WA2000 uses a 6 round box magazine and is shown here with the Schmidt & Bender 2.5-10x56mm adjustable telescopic sight. It is chambered for .300 Win mag and has an effective range of upwards of 1000 metres.
