It serves as a flying command post, allowing senior military officials to communicate with commanders on the ground, submarines, and other aircraft in the event of a nuclear war or other national emergency. The aircraft's advanced communication systems include satellite links, secure voice and data links, and high-frequency radios. It also has the capability to launch ballistic missiles from submarines in the event that ground-based launch facilities are destroyed.
