They are the largest primates and are divided into two subspecies: the Western Lowland Gorilla and the Cross River Gorilla. Western Gorillas are predominantly herbivorous, feeding on fruits, leaves, and occasionally insects. They live in cohesive groups led by a dominant silverback male, consisting of females and their offspring. Unfortunately, they face threats from habitat loss, poaching, and diseases like Ebola. Conservation efforts are crucial to ensure the survival of this critically endangered species.
