We are specialists of 360 degrees photo scan, that's why the diffuse texture, even if you turn off transparency, provides good quality result, especially when the time pressure is high and you want to reduce render time.

Because of simple stack structure:
spline
+lathe modifier
+uvw map
it's very easy to reduce polycount either by adjusting spline interpolation or adjusting lathe modifier segments number if your computer has less power.
