The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Assumption Cathedral) is an Orthodox church in Rostov the Great. Until 1788, it served as the cathedral of the Rostov and Yaroslavl Diocese. Currently, it belongs to the Yaroslavl Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church. The cathedral is located on the Cathedral Square of the Rostov Kremlin and features a free-standing bell tower. Together with the Bishop's Courtyard, whose structures were built later (at the end of the 17th century), and the Metropolitan Garden, it forms a unified architectural ensemble of the Rostov Kremlin. The view of the ensemble from Lake Nero is particularly remarkable.
