One of the first very high resolution models of the Aircraft Carrier, CVN-76, the U.S.S. Reagan. Originally posted in 2004, the model was part of a high resolution imaging project created for the Virginia Air and Space Center and Popular Mechanics magazine and was also published in Maxim magazine. The cutaway has been removed on this model but you will get everything that can be seen externally on the ship (plus the hangar bay and bridge detail).

The model was completed from plans and photographs and has some upgrades over the last posted version. It now includes OBJ and FBX versions of the carrier.This model was designed for high resolution print and has separate layers and pivots for many of the moving/animatable parts. Full texture maps are included (including illumination maps and perimeter lighting for night operations) and UV maps should now import directly into 3DS as well. The Main flight deck image is 2400 pixels and the stock aircraft have accompanying UV mapped textures.

The deck aircraft are (LWO, FBX, OBJ) versions of the F18E, F18F and F35C in both gear down, and gear-up/flight configurations. A total of 6 jet aircraft that can be cloned to produce a full complement of deck aircraft. F18C ready and
stowed aircraft are also included.

The updated deck equipment comes in addition to the original deck equipment versions and contains LWO, OBJ and fbx versions of four (4) different tow carts, sparrow and sidewinder missiles, 2 bomb carts, a forklift, a deck crane, a huffer cart, and an aircraft ladder.

Elevators, deck aircraft, deck equipment, Sparrow and RAM positions, blast deflectors as well as all major components of the ship are on separate layers for easy animation.

An OBJ version of the model is included. The model is very large and in sections, but loads the various parts into position. Logical items are split into 'parts' and 'surfaces' for selection and animation. There is now another version of the .obj format which is a combination of all the layers for quick loading of a complete ship.

An FBX version of the model is included. The parts will load in place.The model was created in Lightwave 11.6.3
and has been tested in Lightwave 2015, 2018, and 2019.

This is a model of the external, visible, parts of an aircraft carrier suitable for visualizing and rendering high resolution images of the external view of the ship.
