HISTORICAL NOTE: The Brazilian ironclad Silvado was originally ordered by Paraguay in 1864, but was sold to Brazil when Paraguay could not make the final payments. She participated in the 186470 War of the Triple Alliance between Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay against Paraguay.

Silvado, named after Captain Americo Brasilio Silvado, who was killed when his ship, the ironclad Rio de Janeiro, struck a mine and sank. The ship was launched in 1865 and completed on 15 September 1866.

In 1867 the Silvado participated in actions in the Fort of Curupaiti. In the year of 1868 returned to bomb Curupaiti and participated of the operations during the passage of Humait, composing the same division that acted in curupaiti. On March 2 he was aided by Cabral and Lima Barros when they were being approached by the Paraguayans who came to the canoe. On October 1, he forced the passage of Angostura, along with ironclads Bahia, Barroso and Tamandare.
