Description

A large orbital space telescope built part by part: a light shield and forward shell wrapped in quilted silver multi-layer insulation with seams and edge rails; a hinged aperture door with ribs, latches and a titanium hinge pin; inside the tube, black baffles, a four-vane secondary mirror spider, the secondary mirror and baffle and the primary mirror with its central baffle; a twelve-sided equipment section with access doors, latches, yellow handrails, mirror-tile radiators and grapple fixtures; an aft shroud with docking pins, a target cross and an aft antenna; two solar wings, each with two panels of modelled solar cells on a boom with spreader bars; two high-gain antennas on 4.5 m booms with azimuth/elevation gimbals; magnetometers and sun sensors.

Rigged (13 bones): the aperture door opens and closes, each solar wing folds against the tube for launch (mast hinge) and rotates to track the sun (drive), and each high-gain antenna boom deploys with azimuth and elevation gimbals on its dish. The previews show the deployed, stowed (launch: door closed, wings folded) and observing states.

- Real-world size: 17.80 x 14.51 x 5.96 m (W x L x H, deployed). Z up. Y = telescope axis (aperture at -Y), X = solar wings, Z = high-gain antenna booms. The origin is at the forward bulkhead of the equipment section, on the telescope axis.
- PBR metal/rough textures (up to 4K): Base Color, Roughness, Metallic, Normal (OpenGL and DirectX). Texture sets: Paint 2K, Metal 4K, Foil 4K, Misc 4K, plus an untextured Lens material.
- One mesh skinned to an armature of 13 bones. Every part is rigidly weighted to one bone, so the skeleton works in any engine. Rotate each bone on its Y axis. FBX in the rest (deployed) pose, no animation.
- No floating parts.
- Native Blender scene plus a 3ds Max 2022 scene with Physical Materials.

Geometry: 182,336 triangles.

The Earth shown in the orbit scene previews is NOT included; it is a render backdrop only. The download contains the satellite only.

Formats: Blender 3.2+ (native), 3ds Max 2022+, FBX 7.4, glTF 2.0 binary (textures embedded), OBJ and USD (UsdPreviewSurface). Maya and Cinema 4D users: import the included FBX or USD.

All renders shown were made in Blender Cycles with the included files; no post-processing.
