Description

This model was built near to scale. It has markings accurate with the ship named which is or was an active Los Angeles Class Submarine of the US Navy. The torpedo tubes may be animated to open, rudder, dive planes and clear water planes are also animateable. The propeller is animateable. The model comes in several different formats.

The Los Angeles Class fast attack submarines are the backbone of the US Navy submarine warfare.

These boats are armed with 4 x 21 inch torpedo tubes in the bow and carry 10 Mk 48 ADCAP torpedoes. They also carry Mk 67 Harpoon anti ship missiles with a range of 70 nautical miles.
This class is nuclear powered and require refueling once ever thirty years.
The early versions called the 688 have the Clearwater planes on the sail. The later 688i model has the Clearwater planes removed from the sail and mounted on the sides of the bow in retractable configuration.
