Seria maru was built at Mitsubishi Jukogyo K.K. Zosensho as a 10,238-ton type 2TL wartime standard merchant tanker, she was launched on May 9th 1944.
She was heavily armed with eight single barreled Type 96 guns, eight twin barreled Type 96 guns and three Type 88 cannons, which were primarily designed as anti aircraft defense weapons but were also capable to engage surface targets.
On 28th of july 1945 she was attacked by Task Force 38 carrier aircraft and beached near Aioi in Hyogo prefecture, Japan.
After the war Seria maru was salvaged, repaired and served a long career in the Japanese merchant marine in peace time.
