The carrier based Tigercat came later in WWII but was one of the fastest Navy carrier based fighters of the war.
The Tigercat served the US and Australian navies in late WWII and during Korea. They were replaced in the mid to late 1950s by jet powered night fighters of the next generation. These aircraft also served in the US Marine Corps. The radar equipped version included a read seat RIO or Radar Intercept Officer.
