R-7 «SEMYORKA»

The R-7 "Semyorka" (NATO reporting name SS-6 Sapwood) was a Soviet missile capable to be armed with a nuclear warhead, the world's first intercontinental ballistic missile.
This rocket had a tremendous impact on the development of the space field. It launched "Sputnik 1", the first human artificial satellite, into orbit, and became the basis for the R-7 family which includes Sputnik, Luna, Molniya, Vostok. It also became the basis for a series of Soviet expendable space launch vehicles, the Soyuz family of launchers.

It was in USSR service in 1959-1968. Missile operational range was 8,000 - 9,500 km.
