Smooth shading required for nice bevels of the plug part. It should work well with subdivisions, but would require retexturing (textures are being stretched if you use subdivision - model itself behaves well) so I would advice against using subdivisions, if you want to keep the current textures.
The pendrive have 3 isolated (unconnected) meshes - the plug, the rear "handle" with a "bridge" and the main cover. You can move the main cover in relation to plug&rear part to close or open it (or move the plug&rear part in relation to cover - same thing ). The blend file have both versions (open and closed) already prepared, but you can animate it easily if neccessary using either one. The polycount listed in description is polycount of both versions of the pendrive summarised (as per turbosquid requirement), so single pendrive have half the polygons/verts.
Following textures (all 4096x4096) are attached:
- diffuse/albedo
- roughness
- metallic
- specular (to fine tune plastic behavior when treated with strong light)
- ambient occlusion (even tho i havent used it for preview renders)
- normal openGL
- normal directX
I am also attaching CC0 (“No Rights Reserved”) licensed hdr file used in rendering the previews. Its also available on hdri heaven, shared there by Greg Zaal (great stuff, thanks!).
Topology of the cover is far from perfect (no perfect loops flow), due to many concept changes and that triangular design of the cover. It works, looks good to me, and that was the look I was aiming for, hence i havent redone the topology, especially that it would be tricky (we want to maintain that triangular look) and propably an overkill. So keep in mind that everything other than the plug itself have some triangles and crazy topology (and lots of proximity loops - up to 6 loops close to each other). It is the way it is to make it behave as it was meant to behave when treated with smooth shading, and have interesting bevels catching light with relatively low poly count.
I am not sure how it will work in other software, hence im uploading just blend file - where i know what to expect and can vouch that it matches the renders look and quality. Any conversions you may do at your own discretion (i dont use blender alternatives so i have no idea what to expect and if you can get similar smooth shading option. The result of flat shading isnt bad, but you would lose the plug part nice bevels and light catching.
