Lithium Battery Tesla 4680 is a 3D model of battery cell developed by Tesla, which was unveiled in 2020 at the Battery Day event. The 4680 cell is named for its dimensions - 46mm in diameter and 80mm in length - which makes it significantly larger than the previous 2170 cell.

The 4680 cell is a high-performance lithium-ion battery cell that uses a new chemistry called lithium iron phosphate (LFP), which is more energy-dense, much more durable, and less expensive than the NCA chemistry used in the 2170 cell. The new cell also features a special tabless design, which eliminates the tabs that connect the cell's electrodes, allowing for faster charging and better thermal management. The new 4680 cell has a projected energy density of 300Wh/kg, which is about 5-6% higher than the energy density of the 2170 cell, and it can deliver up to 6 times the power output.
