Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II (English Fairchild-Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II, nickname - Warthog) is an American single-seat twin-engine attack aircraft designed to provide close air support for ground forces, defeat tanks, armored vehicles, and other ground targets [Note ... one]. The aircraft entered service in 1976 and is currently the only US Air Force aircraft designed and used exclusively for the task of close air support.

Named after the World War II P-47 Thunderbolt fighter-bomber.

The A-10 armament complex allows it to hit tanks and other armored vehicles.
