An exactly accurate globe, made off of a satellite image of our planet, and even the tilt is correct.
Most of the renderings were done with a bronze type globe, though the possibilities aren"t limited to that. (evidenced by the thumbnail)
No alpha maps were used, ensuring a high quality and infinitely high resolution earth model.
