Description

Treponema pallidum is a spirochaete bacterium with subspecies that cause the diseases syphilis, bejel, and yaws.

This untextured model contains ten variations of the parasite in different configurations. The variants are placed together to form a non-intersecting tangle of cells, but could be equally well placed and used individually.

The bacteria have an axial filament of endoflagella running along the length of the cell that gives them the characteristic helix shape. The model has an accurate cross-section reflecting the anatomy of the cell; special care has been taken such that the axial filament is shown on the outside of the coil. Weight maps are included to facilitate texture generation.
