If you put the eyes to another characters of course you should change the shader/hdri map/lighting settings to match with your current model/scene.

The real human eye is not symmetrical, although my main eye sphere model is symmetrical and has rotate pivot inside that to be user-friendly. The texture of iris is not symmetrical. The pupil has a deform modifier to break the symmetry, if you want you can change back to symmetrical eye or add another deform for pupil. If you want another deform you should change the deform of both mesh (small pupil and for big pupil) version of eye. In real life also the left and the right eye has different shape of pupil.
