Description

Created by a more than 20 years VFX and 3D animation industry veteran.

Photorealistic model of a Greenland Shark, also known as the gurry shark or grey shark, or by the Inuit name Eqalussuaq.

All render and shaders done in V-Ray. The ground is made of procedural textures with displacement. V-Ray fog also used.

The model is fully rigged with CAT and animated.

Originally made in 3ds Max 2014 and V-Ray 3. I supply also files for 3ds Max 2010 to 2013 with V-Ray 2 and 3ds Max 2015 with V-Ray 3. There is an obj (but no shader and no animation can be translated to obj).

There is a high quality original caustic animation (2048 x 2048) f that you can use in other projects too. I generated it with V-Ray.

V-Ray elements are setup to provided all the passes to make a realistic compositing. Occlusion, Zdetph and RGB masks. The render examples were composited with those passes to add depth of field for example. The turntable and amimation example were adjusted in comp.

The model used for rendering is made solely of quads but there a tris in the scene only because of the rig.

RIG AND ANIMATION NOTES:

Rig with CAT, a powerful rig system included with 3ds Max.

The shark swims over 72 frames and a noise modifier is making the fins flapping a little. The framerate is 24 fps.

There is also a blue shark geometry that serves only for the rigging. That one is without secondary motion, the second geometry that serves for rendering gets its deformations from the first one by skin wrap and a secondary motion is added to that one by the noise modifiers via soft selections.

Also please note that If you want to open the file in 3ds Max 2012 you will need Service Pack 2 installed for the CAT rig to be readable 3ds Max 2012.
