NEW: Alternative 'Beta' texture (separate file in Blender download)

A highly detailed, photo-realistic 'raptor' dinosaur which is based on the most common depictions of the creature in the media. The design is in fact more similar to Deinonychus or Utahraptor than the more famous Velociraptor, and additional artistic liberties have been taken with the design to make it look like the stereotypical 'raptor' which is shown in Hollywood movies.

This model features high-quality modelling with good topology as well as realistic texturing, with a displacement map baked from a 6-million-vertex sculpt as well as a fine detail map for close up renders. Non-blender file formats are not production ready but with some work can be useful.

The Blender format of the model is designed to work perfectly with Blender's Cycles render engine which provides high-quality, production-standard renders. This version is also fully rigged for easy animation and takes advantage of Blender's multiresolution modifier, allowing you to render at multiple levels of subdivision from the same mesh. Simply animate, drop in the lights, and render!

The model is to scale where one Blender Unit = 1m.

Other file formats are static and are NOT rigged, nor do they feature materials, but the topology is clean and rigging in other software should be easy. NOTE: .fbx file format does contain an armature, but higher level rig functions such as IK and such like will not function as expected and many bones will be useless because of this. You can still animate through direct manipulation of the bones, however.

The model itself is made up of 19 objects. The body & head is one piece. The upper & lower teeth are each separate objects, as well as the gums on the upper jaw. Each claw is a separate object for rigging reasons. The eyes are also separate objects.

There are four textures included with this model. The raptor itself uses three 4k textures for diffuse, displacement and fine detail (specular is derived from the displacement texture) and the teeth use a single 1024x1024 texture.

The multiresolution modifier can be set to render at 0, 1, 2, 3, and 5 subdivision levels (subdivision 4 may result in visual artifacts, but 3 is high enough for almost all cases)

.3ds is available at subdivisions 0 & 1
.obj is available at subdivisions 0, 1 & 2
.fbx is available at subdivisions 1, 2 & 3

Each file format download contains one folder for textures and one folder which each contains the model at a different subdivision level.

There is a readme file included within the .blend file which will be visible when you first open it which explains how to use the rig in simple terms.

Vertex stats:

At subdivision 0: 24,787
At subdivision 1: 43,673
At subdivision 2: 119,041
At subdivision 3: 420,329
At subdivision 5: 6,443,513

NOTE: I HIGHLY recommend that you use Blender to animate and render this model. .3ds format in particular may have problems in other programs due to the encoding of UVs and normals. The best results will always come from Blender as that is where the materials and rig have been set up (and it's completely free to use and fairly intuitive)
In many cases the alternate file formats will not preserve materials or texture references correctly and you will have to reset them yourself. UVs will be preserved however.
