The F/A-18E/F Super Hornet is a twin-engine carrier-based multirole fighter aircraft derived from the F/A-18C. The Super Hornet entered service with the United States Navy in 1999, replacing the F-14 Tomcat since 2006, and serves alongside the original Hornet. In 2007, the Australian Government signed a contract to acquire 24 F/A-18Fs for the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). The first RAAF Super Hornet was completed in 2009 and No. 1 Squadron became fully operational with the F/A-18F in 2010.
The model is complete with the typical asymmetrical loadout for strike missions, adopted during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom: GBU-12, GBU-38, ATFLIR pod and AIM-9, AIM-120 for self defense.
