Description
This is a model of what the Santa Maria might have looked like. For this model I used the poly modeling technique in 3d Studio MAX 9. The model has simple textures as I prefer to model all the details.
For the textures I used my camera to take pictures of wooden planks and Ulead Photo Impact to turn those pictures into textures. For the sails and flags I had to hand draw the textures (pencil and crayons) and then scan them.
The zip file contains the max 9 file and all the textures needed. I also included a 3ds version of the model.

The Santa Maria was probably a medium sized carrack type ship, about 22m(72 feet) long and weighed about 100 tons and was used as the flagship for Columbus's expedition.
The Santa MarĂa had a single deck and three masts. She ran aground off the present-day site of Cap-Haitien, Haiti on December 25, 1492, and was damaged beyond repair. Her timbers were later salvaged and used to build the settlement known as La Navidad, the first European colony in America.
