Description
Blender 2.68 model with Cycles textures. Other file formats are model only.

Excellent prop for Xmas scenes, Santa and his elves, toyshops, non-big-chain toy stores, kids' rooms, day care centers, or souvenir on the fireplace mantle.

This model is based on one of several wooden toys created by the Toymakers at Trinity Episcopal Church in Escondido, CA.   Each year a few hundred are made to be donated to an organization which distributes them to kids in poverty.

The actual object is about 6 inches from front to back, but the model looks fine scale up or down to any length within a couple inches of that.

Both the plain bare mesh used to define the object, and the meshes after subsurface modifiers had been applied, are shown in the thumbnail images. The meshes are almost all quads, with the only notable exeption being in the ends of the axles.

The wood textures use an image and a fairly complex node arrangement, capturing the look of well-sanded shellacked wood, but relies on a crude wood image and much processing. The waviness of the grain is done with Cycles nodes. This nice wood texture will not be available in non-Blender file formats. Feel free to use any wood textures you like. The real life toys are made from a motley collection of donated scrap wood.

The axles are not elaborately texured - you may want to apply a wood or paint texture of your own choosing. Or make them metal. Note that the wheels have holes in the centers (oops), but these are normally hidden by protruding axles.

A simple horizontal platform is included on a separate layer, almost certainly to be deleted after the first few quick renders.
