Type of geometry: poly with meshsmooth applied. Pictures that you can see are ~500000 polygons (meshsmooth = 2). Without meshsmooth polycount is about 100000 polygons
Materials: stock Mental Ray shaders that comes with 3D Studio Max 8. You don't need any external plugins.
Textures: not used. You can recive missing textures warning, but actually it wouldn't affect your rendered result.
