Description
This Submarine is built near to scale, fully textured, and mapped. This model is very detailed, is very high polygon and render very well. It has many animateable features including hatches, guns, rudder, rear and forward planes, antennas and propellers. Many details are included with this model that are not in our older Balao and gato sub models. It also has animateable torpedo tube doors and inner hatches as well. Our Mk 14 Torpedo is also built for use in animations with this model.

These submarines served in WWII after 1942 and were successful in combat. The earlier boats were powered by 2 diesel engines and four electric motors. The motors used reduction gears to drive the two propeller shafts but created a lot of noise and were more readily detectable on hydrophones while underwater. They could carry 24 torpedoes and had a 3 in gun, (2) 50 cal machine guns, a single mounted 20 mm and a single mounted 30 mm. The weapons varied from one boat to another and were often changed during refits. The later boats saw engine changes which provided the same amount of power while reducing the noise and increasing reliability. These subs saw a great deal of action in the Pacific and were very well known for their effectiveness.
