The Cessna O-1E /L-19 Bird Dog was designed and developed by Cessna to fill an order for a all metal fixed wing light aircraft by the United States Army for observation and liaison work. The Bird Dog saw extensive service in the Vietnam War.
After retirement many of the Cessna 0-1 and L-19 Bird Dogs were transferred to the Civil Air Patrol to be used for search and rescue. After several accidents involving CAP Bird Dogs they were sold to private owners. Most Bird Dogs are now in the hands of private owners, flying museums and are static display at museums.
