Eileen Gray Transat Chair design year 1927 Black lacquer and chrome 'Transat' chair designed in the 1920s by Eileen Gray for her Villa E. 1027 in the South of France. Used as a deck chair, its name derived from the first two syllables of the word 'transatlantic' for the steamships that inspired its design. The present example probably dates from the 1980s.
Materials/Techniques: Lacquered wood and chromed metal.
