Mario Botta had been working on designing a flower vase for Alessi since 1994, exploring an area that probed the borders of craft work, art and design. Between 2001 and 2002 he concentrated on the design of a stainless steel vase with forms inspired by nature: an abstract and linear trunk of a cut tree, with its branches. Tronco, meaning 'log' in Italian is Botta's creation and is offered in mirror polished 18/10 stainless steel.
