Description
Anti tank units in Russia were in desperate need for
large numbers of anti tank vehicles to counter the
T34 threat. The Wehrmacht had 1300 excellent
Russian 7.62cm guns (PAK36 R) that were
captured during the offensive of 1941. A simple
conversion to the Pz38 (t) chassis allowed the
Pak 36 R to be mounted. Although the Marder III
filled its role very successfully, the high silhouette
and thin armor made the Marder III very vulnerable.
It was best suited for an ambush scenario. 344
were built between 1942 and 1943.
