CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing complex, molecular structure. The CRISPR-Cas9 protein is used in genome engineering to cut DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). It uses a guide RNA (ribonucleic acid) sequence to cut DNA at a complementary site.

Model includes polygonal surface of Cas9 complex along with point data for use with volumetric rendering, if desired.

The double helix of the DNA is represented using a ladder style depiction with random base pairs crosslinking the two strands. Base pairing, spacing and twist is consistent with the structure of DNA and accurately represents the major and minor grooves.

The single guide RNA (rendered grey in images) is depicted in a similar style to the DNA and shows the coiling and hairpins formed due to its self-complementarity
