The horse drawn hearse was used in the 18th, 19th and 20th century to carry deceased individuals from the funeral home or residence to the grave side. It was used as late as the 1990s when my great uncle ( a top Morgan horse trainer) was carried to his grave in one of these. They were common to communities until the 1920s when the automotive hearses began taking over the roll. These hearses are still available but a worth a small fortune.
