Model units = feet. Current material/render setup for mental ray (cutout map used rather than transparency/opacity. If you use transparency mapping with a standard mat & any kind of atmosphere you'll have issues).

All diffuse & corresponding alpha maps included in zip archive. Materials applied to planes & ready to render 'right out of the box.'

Most suitable for tree-lines and other medium to far-off renders, where the camera does not have to fly through & 3D geometry is not needed. Maps range in size from 124x419 to 3015x2010. Most will work for closeup still shots (large maps); others will require a more distant vantage point.

Vertex/poly count at right is for entire scene as shown (44 trees + ground plane). There are 44 individual trees; each is a simple plane (2 faces/4 vertices) with a Look-At constraint applied (each looks at the Camera in the scene). All named with the idea there will be clones made. The name also reflects the height, and the type of tree (when known - see 'treeplanes_variety_collection.txt' preview file below).

***Important: I usually merge from this file into other scenes. When you do, make sure to merge ALL 44 trees, as well as the camera and it's target. You can always delete any unused tees later, but you're not going to want to delete the camera (and probably not it's target - it will guarantee you a way to avoid seeing the trees on-edge if you render from that camera viewport. I usually use a crowd helper (your land is the distribution object) since it has the advantage of cloning the controller (the look at constraint)***
