The carbine features a much shorter barrel than the full length FAL, making it easier to wield. It also features a shortened gas system and handguard, and the skeleton stock folds to the side of the rifle. A muzzle brake serves to reduce the heavy recoil produced by firing a full power rifle cartridge from such a short barrel. A full length Picatinny rail runs along the top of the receiver to mount optics, and three more rails on the handguard provide accessory mounting points.
This FAL carbine has a vertical handgrip attached to the underbarrel rail, and a tactical light with pressure switch activator on the right rail. A forward sling swivel ring is attached to the left hand rail. The optical sight is a Leupold Mark 4 CQ/T scope, a low magnification optic intended for close range use.
The SA58 OSW holds 20 rounds of 7.62 NATO ammunition in a detachable box magazine and weighs just over 4 kg unloaded.
