John's head was scanned using a structured light scanner with a Canon SLR to capture the high resolution texture and likeness. The scan was retopologized to create an animatable mesh, consisting of only quads, except in the eyes which contain triangles (default maya spheres).
The native file format (Maya ascii 2012) contains the 'low' resolution mesh, which is fully UVed with non-overlapping UV's, except for the eyes which use the same UV space and textures. It comes with a highlight free (or as much as was possible using cross-polarizing techniques) color map at 4096x4096px resolution. It also contains a normal and displacement map at the same resolution. All three maps are 8bit tiffs and have a 32 pixel bleed.
The Zbrush file contains the same geometry, but with multiple subdivisions. The highest level contains the finer detail such as pores and wrinkles, from which displacement and normal maps can be generated if needed.
The zbrush file contains 5 subdivisions, the highest resolution being: 1,742,944 polygons.
The model is asymmetrical, and is in real-world scale (cm).
