In 1942 Germany finally saw the need to standardize parts and production of it’s tanks. The E-series was slated to replace armor manufactured after 1945. Six chassis were planned: the E5, E10, E25, E50, E75 and the E100. The E25 was to replace the PZIII and the PZ IV. Many of it’s parts were exchangeable with the E10. E-series vehicles were to have rear drive with transverse mounted engines, externally sprung suspensions, large diameter overlapping road wheels along with Panther tracks and a hydrostatic drive. According to reports, three were ready for trials at the end of the war. When allies went to retrieve these tanks they weren’t there. All six basic designs of E-Series would have standardized parts making production, maintenance and service easier and cheaper.
