I saw this floor plan for a large Japanese house on a google search and I wanted to make my own rendition of the plan. I put the entire layout on a hill-side, the option of two different toilets - squat and western, and a tall Heian style roof with aged copper siding. I removed the built-in bathtub and put in a shower instead. The outdoor water-basins have been removed in favor for more porch surface-area. I added a large bay-window to the far tatami room, and numerous changes added/removed. In essence I made the entire layout for a more modern style of living while keeping a recognizable Japanese aesthetic. I would say the architecture is a mix of Shoin Zukuri and Heian, with small bits of western influences.
