As shown in the smoothed and unsmoothed screenshots of the 'Block Man', the number of polygons can be changed to fit the scene and distance from the camera without losing its shape at all. For example, if the 'Block Man' is only in the background the meshsmooth modifier can be turned off to save a large amount of rendering time.
The downloadable video shows how motion capture data can be applied to the 'Block Man' to obtain realistic and fun animations.
