The carbine is a light military gun
with shortened run and weaker caliber.
Carbines have been primary developed for the cavalry and horse-drawn troops,
for example, the field artillery,
because infantry guns were too unwieldy by the application to horse.
Beside the shortened barrel (with approx. 1 m of total length of the weapon)
the carbine often had a ring on the left side, in which the carbine hook can be hooked,
so that the carbine could be simply dropped after the shot, to continue
the fight with guns or saber and lance.
The basic division of the military long weapons in infantry guns,
(Hunter's cans) and carbines remained valid till the time of the 1. world war.
