ATP synthase creates the energy storage molecule adenosine triphosphate (ATP) from adenosine diphosphate (ADP) and inorganic phosphate (Pi). Energy is supplied by a flow of protons passing through the molecule in a way analogous to water flowing downhill through a waterwheel. The turning motion is transmitted to the second part of the molecule where ADP and Pi are combined.
This 3d model consists of point data of the atomic positions in the molecule animated over one full revolution showing the changes in conformation that occur. A polygon mesh contains the point data and corresponding .mdd files contain the animation information. The renders show volumetric renders of this data.
