When publishing a 3D model for sale, you will need to choose the appropriate Geometry type from the pulldown in Step 1 of the Publisher, under Product Specifications.
The majority of 3D models published at TurboSquid have Polygonal geometry. The preferred choice for most of our customers is Polygonal Quads/Tris or Polygonal Quads only.
Here are the choices for Geometry:
Polygonal – This is a legacy choice from a previous version of the Publisher, when there weren’t detailed choices for Polygonal models. Do not use this choice when publishing a new 3D model.
NURBS – This choice indicates that your model was created with Non-Uniform Relational B-Splines. If you don’t know what this is, then your model wasn’t created with NURBS.
Sudivision – This choice indicates that the 3D model has subdivision that cannot be removed. This choice is not recommended. We recommend that you either remove subdivision before posting the model for sale, or include subdivision in a manner that makes it removable (such as leaving the subdivision modifier separate in 3ds Max, or leaving history intact in Maya). Removing subdivision, or making it removable, means you can choose one of the Polygonal options to describe your model’s geometry.
Unknown – This is a legacy choice from when the Publisher didn’t require a Geometry type. Do not use this choice.
Polygonal Quads/Tris – This indicates that your 3D model was created with quads and triangles only, and no ngons(polygons with more than 4 sides). This is one of the choices preferred by customers.
Polygonal Quads only – This choice indicates that your 3D model is created with quads only. This is one of the preferred choices for our customers.
Polygonal Tris only – This indicates that your 3D model is made up entirely of triangles. While a model made up entirely of triangles can be useful for some applications, it is very easy for customers to change a quads only or quads/tris only model into triangles. On the other hand, it is not easy for customers to change a triangles-only model to quads.
Polygonal Ngons used – This choice indicates that your model has some ngons (polygons with more than 4 sides). If your model has very few ngons, consider changing the ngons to quads to make your model more appealing to customers. Then you can choose Polygonal Quads/Tris or Polygonal Quads only as your Geometry choice.
