This model is a very highly detailed representation of an FN Herstal SCAR L assault rifle. It was designed for use in contemporary titles like Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Modern Warfare and many other 'current gen' games. It was modeled as accurately to the real weapon as I could manage and as much as the poly count would let me. Particular attention was paid to the texture of the plastic that most of the weapon components are made from.

All images above, apart from the turntable are direct screenshots from 3ds Max using a Direct-X shader, in other words these shots are very close to how the weapon would look in-game. There is also no special lighting only the standard light in Max which was left unchanged.

All parts of the gun are named appropriately and have their pivot points located in the correct places ie. the rear sight pivot point is located central to the mount holding it in place so it will rotate as it would in real life. The movable parts are as follows- rear sight, front sight, magazine (with bullets attached), fire selectors on both sides(one object with one pivot point), trigger, bolt, ejector port and a sliding stock.

At roughly 4,200 polys or 7,800 triangles this model should be more than acceptable in terms of todays AAA games. Particular attention was paid to the areas where the player will see most and from the closest distance ie the rear sights and back left portion of the gun.

For $50 you can have a top quality SCAR L model to drop into your WIP game and save yourself dozens of man-hours and hundreds of dollars or just purchase it to use in your own mod or community based game.
