Tuby, a French sculptor born in Rome, designed this impressive sculpture which continues the grandiose association of Louis XIV with the sun-god Apollo.It depicts the
sun god driving his chariot across the sky.
This fountain symbolizes the regime of Louis XIV, or, the 'Sun King'. If you walk from the 'Fountain of Latona' down the garden through the 'Royal Avenue' you will end
up at the 'Fountain of Apollo'. The 'Fountain of Apollo' is wonderful to see, The group depicts Apollo in his chariot and is made by Tuby from Le Brun's design. Tuby
worked on these sculptures from 1668 to 1670. A year later it was brought to Versailles, gilded and installed.
