History
Narrow gauge (36”) Freight and Passenger locomotive, circa 1889. Built for the Rio Grande Southern Railroad for use in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, USA.   This historically accurate and highly detailed full scale (1:1) locomotive would be an ideal Key Asset to a late 19th Century period or Western themed set design and imaging, and is capable of extreme close-ups and rendering.

The Model
The SolidWorks™ CAD model was reverse-engineered from period line drawings and photographs. It is representative of my museum quality work in the field of Industrial Archeology (IA).

All moving parts are individually modeled, (except the between-frame valve gear) (which I mated in SolidWorks to prove it would “work”), and to allow for appropriate animation. The cab interior is fully detailed. The period correct narrow-gauge track section would allow for copying to extend the length.

The rendered images depict a period correct color scheme in the interim period between highly colorful and drab black; “Basic Black” with red trim.   However, I UV mapped the features and appropriate surfaces to allow simplified material and color application to suit your scheme. The high resolution model contains 2,211,380 polys.

The original SolidWorks™ model was saved as a Parasolid, then re-imported into SolidWorks, resulting in a greatly reduced file size. It was converted into the .obj format using SymLab Composer. Preview thumbnails rendered in KeyShot 4 Pro from Luxion.

The .obj is offered for those who prefer to work from this format, but it is likely most will want to use and/or import the SolidWorks model. The .obj and SolidWorks model have been tested in KeyShot, but have not been tested in other apps such as Maya, modo, C4d and the like. Please review your modeling or rendering app to verify that it will import a SolidWorks model.
