USS Independence (LCS-2) is a Littoral combat ship.
It is a high-speed trimaran ship designed specifically for close to shore operations.
The Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) is the next generation of Naval warships.
It has officially joined the operating forces of the United States Navy on January 2010.
