The Privet was completed as the cargo ship Island Queen in 1916, taken up as a 'Q' ship 1916-1919 as HMS Privet (Alcala, Island Queen, Q.19, Swisher)-(names in brackets are the disguised identities). Sank U85 and UC29 in 1917 and sank U34 in 1918 (unconfirmed). Sold in 1919.
Q ships were designed to mimic the lines of merchantmen in the hopes of tricking U-boats into launching ill-advised attacks.
This model contains parts for showing the ship in it's 'decoy' mode and 'action' mode. The weapons include a deck gun hidden in a fake deck house, six bomb throwers hidden the hold areas and a pop-up deck gun located in the forward section of the ship. Crew figures are included.
