German policy was to produce a self-propelled gun mount using each chassis design. The Jagdtiger was developed the same time as the Tiger II. With introduction in April of 1944. The size of the vehicle made problems for transportation and deployment along with overtaxing the chassis and the drive train. Consequently it was subject to numerous breakdowns. The chassis was slightly lengthened, a box structure replaced the turret and a 128 mm gun was deployed. It’s size made it difficult to conceal from aircraft. Even with it’s shortcomings it proved to be a very formidable opponent. Only about 80 were ever manufactured.
