The Mossberg 590 shotgun is a mil-spec modification of the Mossberg 500. This ‘militarization’ included a strengthened receiver and other parts, heatshield above the barrel, an enlarged magazine and a bayonet lug. The 590 is a manually operated, pump action, smoothbore shotgun. It is renowned as an extremely rugged and reliable weapon, and is used by various branches of the US military.
